It was a journey I never thought I’d make. And yet, 65 years later, here I was. It felt strange to revisit a place that had so many memories tied to it. As I walked deeper into the house, I entered the courtyard with its huge oak. Its leafy boughs still held the treehouse that was my childhood hideout. Behind the house ran a clear stream, which soothed our blistered feet on hot summer days. I remember my father leading my sister and I to the woods just beyond, where we would gather wild flowers and even some produce to be cooked for the day’s meals. The trees still echoed our laughter. I stood there in silence, a single tear rolling down my cheek.
