One of the highlights of her visits to her grandparents home was the jamun sherbet that her grandmother prepared to welcome them. Slightly sweet but with a distinctive sourness, the drink stained her tongue purple and made her face pucker up. When they left the village for the city, for the very last time, she made sure to write down her grandmothers recipe “ no other sherbet shed ever tasted could match up to it. And when she made it on her own for the very first time, she realised why “ her grandmothers recipe mimicked life. It had its salty bit, moments of sourness and then a sweet aftertaste that made the entire journey worthwhile. And that was what she would carry with her, as her grandmothers legacy.
